Keith, Lindsay and new recruit Ali headed down to Glasgow this weekend, taking Summer Isles Foods organic range to the Organic Food Festival, being held at the Old Fruit Market. It was a great weekend for us.
Not only did we manage to sell out of all of our organic range but we made some great new friends. In particular I would like to say thank you to Coca of Bruntsfield,Yorkshire Hemp, Festival Wines and Wil's Smokehouse for constant smiles and making the weekend so enjoyable.
Thank you also to everyone who came along and said hello to us at the stand. It is so great meeting people who know Achiltibuie, remember Summer Isles Foods from over 20 years ago or who enjoy tasting food which really is something special.
Although we sold-out of everything this weekend you can still order our organic products online so have a look and get stocked up for Christmas!

Autumn setting in
The clocks went back this morning and although the day was sunny and windy, it really did start to get dark far too early for my liking!
It was a quiet family weekend up in Achiltibuie for us. We had a lovely walk on Achnahaird beach on Sunday morning before having a look around the smokehouse. This may sound strange but sometimes it is nice to have a look at all the different levels of the smoking process. This time was particularly interesting as we were also thinking about the Organic Food festival next weekend which will be in Glasgow.
Summer Isles foods and the Smokehouse have changed so much since I was young. Some of my earliest memories are of standing outside the factory windows and the girls in the production room passing bits of smoked salmon trimmings to me without my father seeing! How times have changed. Not only is that not allowed but we have the Organic standards to think of too. It is great to remind ourselves that our methods are traditional and yet we still maintain the highest of standards for all our ranges.
I've taken a few delicious products from the shop in Achiltibuie and I'll be making up some of our great, tried and tested recipes to add to the site to check them out through out this month for ideas for Christmas meals.

Blas Music Festival
What a wonderful weekend of music we have had! The Blas Festival - Celebrating Highland music, started this weekend and I saw concerts in Achiltibuie and in Ullapool.
"Blas" is a Gaelic word meaning 'a taste' or 'a flavour' and the Festival gives a taste of the finest musicians in Scotland, promoting Highland music and culture.
In Achiltibuie we were treated to Fèis Rois Cèilidh Trailers, Rachel Newton and Back of the Moon. It was a fantastic evening of music. Back of the Moon are a wonderful band and had everyone singing and clapping along.
In Ullapool we saw the Fèis Rois Cèilidh Trail and Rachel Newton again and they were consistently brilliant, just as they were the evening before. The final act of the evening was the legendry Blazin' Fiddles. They have so much energy and passion for the music. They took the place by storm. Wonderful musicians and if you are a fan of fiddle music then please attend a concert close to you soon!
A great weekend of music and the weather was good enough to take to dog for a walk on Achnahaird beach on Saturday! Unfortunately the rain started Sunday morning. I think we have now officially entered Autumn in Achiltibuie :(

Fàilte! Welcome!
Fàilte! Welcome to a new blog space reporting from Achiltibuie about news from the area, the Highlands and,of course, keeping you updated on the delicious products from Summer Isles Foods
We have had an amazing summer of weather up here. The only day it didn't seem so great was the annual Coigeach Gathering, our version of the Highland games. It was a blustery day on Badentarbet beach as everyone huddled around the plant stall and drooled as the wonderful smells of a roast venison haunch drifted around us all...actually, I was too busy on the case of the raffle tickets. Raffles in Achiltibuie usually consist of the donator of a prize winning it back and this year was no different. The lucky winner of a side of Summer Isles Foods smoked salmon was none other than our very own Iona who works in the office!
